On November 17, Belgium could decide the fate of Carles Pugidemont and the 4 former Catalan ministers currently on probation in Brussels.
This is the day established on which the first hearing will be held before the Council Chamber of the Belgian court of first instance called to decide on the execution of the European arrest warrant issued by the Spanish judges against the deposed Catalan president and former members of the Government of Barcelona.
Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said that the Madrid government respects the decisions of the Belgian justice regarding Puigdemont and the other 4 former ministers. For his part, the Spanish justice minister Rafael Català said he was convinced that the request for the delivery of the five sent to the Belgian justice system would end with "a favorable result".
The 5 remain on probation for the moment, but will not be able to leave Belgium. However, according to what was specified by the Brussels prosecutor, they will be able to have contact with the press and carry out their political activity. In total, the Belgian court will have 90 days to examine the request presented by the Spanish state.
