Prysmian: new plant in Mexico

The group Prysmian the construction of a new plant for the production of telecommunications cables in Mexico. For the company, leader in the energy and telecommunications cable systems sector, the Mexican market is constantly growing thanks to liberalisation, the increase in demand for broadband services and government policy aimed at connecting homes.

Prysmian Cables y Sistemas de Mexico will build the plant for the production of communications cables in Durango, the city where the same company has its headquarters. The initial investment in plants and buildings will amount to approximately 10,5 million dollars for a maximum capacity of 2.000.000 km/fibre per year.

The draft Prysmian in Mexico it will be divided into two phases. The first phase of the investment in the Durango plant will end in 2016 with a production capacity of 1 million km/fibre per year. The second phase will be completed in 2017 and will increase the total production capacity up to 2.000.000 km/fibre per year.

“Mexico and Central America offer ample opportunities for development in all telecommunications sectors in the near future, with steady growth in broadband connection users in the coming years,” said Toni Bosch, VP Telecom Solutions at Prysmian Group. “Investments in this area are therefore essential for Prysmian to be ready to respond to the consequent increase in market demand and to support its customers in the region”.
