Prysmian launches Industry 4.0 project with Dassault

The Italian group has announced the first pilot project at the optical cable plant in Calais, France, in partnership with the transalpine company Dassault Systèmes and other international companies – The goal is to create smarter plants, leveraging the integration of skills digital and human know-how.

Prysmian Group, manufacturer of energy and telecommunications cables, has announced the launch of its first Factory 4.0 pilot project at its optical cable plant in Calais (France). The project, called "Fast Track", represents a step forward in the implementation of Prysmian Group's "Fast Forward Operations" program aimed at creating smarter plants by leveraging the integration of digital skills and people's know-how. The “Fast Track” project will be implemented thanks to the collaboration with Dassault Systèmes, 3DEXPERIENCE Company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions.

The partnership with Dassault Systèmes allows Prysmian to leverage the best applications in the sector created both to manage production processes aimed at deploying cutting-edge IoT technologies and to analyze Big Data. In addition to streamlining operational processes and adopting a more sustainable use of resources, Prysmian will add value to its work, consequently creating greater value for its customers and Stakeholders. The launch of the pilot project in Calais will allow Prysmian to develop broader plans with the aim of progressively installing Factory 82 solutions in all of its 4.0 plants worldwide. The "Fast Track" approach ensures full traceability of production activities and materials used, at the same time managing events that could affect production processes and providing all the relevant information needed to identify the root causes and possible solutions in real time .

“Speed and availability of information are the key elements of “Fast Track”. This project aims to guarantee total reliability of production processes in terms of volume, quality and timing, taking a decisive step forward in terms of execution of activities and along the entire materials management chain” explains Andrea Pirondini, COO of Prysmian group. “Production is the soul of our company and the factories are its heart. Prysmian was born to produce and our reputation as world leaders is the result of a distinctly customer-oriented approach, based on our reliability. One of the pillars on which our constant success rests is therefore the continuous improvement of processes and efficiency, product quality and the skills of our collaborators, with a view to offering customers the greatest possible value” concluded Pirondini.

“We are creating a system that collects all available information on a given cable solution, from materials and production chains to production times and quality tests” emphasized Stefano Brandinali, Global CIO of Prysmian Group. “The Fast Track project and other initiatives of this type can be used to plan maintenance of machinery, making plants safer and more efficient, and to identify the need for any adjustments at an early stage. We are changing our approach to problems and critical issues, preventing them rather than just reacting. Technology is key in this. One above all, specifically, is the use of the Internet of Things” concluded Stefano Brandinali.

“Our 3DEXPERIENCE platform is a fundamental asset for companies that intend to evolve, as it is able to successfully accompany them in the Industry 4.0 era. Thanks to this platform, in a very short time, we have created a digital ecosystem for Prysmian that makes it possible to use smart connected solutions to create and maintain products in a more detailed and intelligent way, as well as strategically employing information in order to become more productive and creative ” underlined Guido Porro, Managing Director EuroMed of Dassault Systèmes. “We are delighted to be recognized as a strategic partner of a future-oriented market leader of the caliber of Prysmian,” he concluded.
