Piero Dorazio, Italian artist (born June 29, 1927 in Rome, Italy – died May 17, 2005, Perugia, Italy), he created abstract paintings known for their bold colors and geometric patterns. At the age of 20 Dorazio co-founded the abstract artist group Forma 1 and obtained a scholarship to study for a year at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In the 1950s he helped set up an artists' cooperative gallery, L'Age d'Or, in Rome. Dorazio's works were exhibited at the 1952 Venice Biennale; his first solo show was the following year at the Wittenborn One-Wall Gallery in New York City, and in 1965 he was part of "The Responsive Eye" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Dorazio also taught at Harvard University (1953) and at the Graduate School of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania (1961-1969), where he was a cofounder of the Institute of Contemporary Art.
