Journalists' pensions: Inpgi raises the age for seniority and old age

The Board of Inpgi, the pension institution for journalists, has unanimously approved a package of measures on social security and social security contributions. The measures are aimed at guaranteeing the medium-long term sustainability of the Inpgi in the face of the crisis in the publishing sector.

In a note, the Inpgi explains that the change in the requirements for access to the old-age pension sees the required age progressively rise, in the three-year period 2017-2019, until it is raised to 66 and 7 months when fully operational.

For the requirements for access to the old age pension, a progressive increase in the contribution seniority is introduced up to 2019 years of contributions at 40 years of age in 62.

The institute explains that "the intervention was necessary in the face of the persistence of the crisis in the publishing sector which led to a 15% contraction in employment relationships reported to Inpgi, a simultaneous 30% increase in pension expenditure as well as a continuous recourse to the social shock absorbers paid by the institution”.

According to the president Marina Macelloni, "this reform represents an important step for securing the Institute's accounts in the face of a crisis in the publishing sector that shows no sign of abating".

In implementation of the consolidated legal principles in force in the legal system, these measures will have no effect on those who, by 31 December 2016, have already accrued the requirements established by the previous legislation for access to any pension treatment , who – therefore – will be able to continue to access the pension benefits already accrued at any time, even after the entry into force of the new requirements.

The introduction of the contribution calculation system pursuant to law no. 335/1995 for contributions after 1/01/2017.
