Pecorino DOP to the poor: Bellanova opens tenders for 14 million euros

AGEA, the Agency for disbursements in agriculture which carries out the functions of Coordination Body and Paying Body in the context of the disbursement of European Union funds to agricultural producers, has opened two tenders for a total value of 14 million euros for the purchase of Pecorino dop to be allocated to the needy through the network of charities. The two tenders, of equal value, are designed to allow regular and staggered delivery within the year. The first procedure provides for the closing of the deliveries within 90 working days from the signing of the contract; while the second procedure provides for the start of deliveries on 1 September 2020 and closure on 31 December 2020.

“With this operation – declared the Minister of Agricultural Policies Teresa Bellanova – we are continuing to implement the instruments in favor of the sheep's milk supply chain and in support of the income of even the weakest link who are the shepherds. With the 14 million euros deriving from the agricultural emergency decree, we will be able to purchase more than 15 quintals of pecorino cheese to be allocated to the neediest. An operation that we coordinated together with charitable organizations and Agea. Faced with a crisis like the one we are experiencing today, it is essential to continue the business and use every tool at our disposal to support the agri-food supply chains"
