Easter, the coronavirus is also felt at the table: spending -27%

The crisis and the impossibility of going to restaurants and trattorias is causing the expected consumption for the Easter lunch to collapse: the estimates of Coldiretti.

It will be a half Easter, the one that awaits the Italians. Not only will we be forced, for the first time since the wars, to spend it at home, but in addition the economic crisis generated by the coronavirus epidemic will also make itself felt at the table, with a reduction in spending. According to a Coldiretti analysis, Italians will try to seek consolation at least in food, but still less than in the past, given that for the Easter lunch "only" 1,1 billion will be invested throughout the country euros for typical products, wine and the ingredients of traditional recipes, i.e. 27% less than in 2019.

The coronavirus emergency that has forced Italians to stay at home has therefore only partially changed the habits of Italians, who do not want to give up the pleasures of the palate even if the forced closure of restaurants to the public is heavily felt, trattorias and farmhouses. In aid of families this year there is the beautiful novelty of farmer cooks, who deliver the typical menus of the local tradition, handed down for generations in the countryside, directly to homes.

The initiative is signed by the farmhouses of Friend Terranostra campaign, who undertake to deliver the Easter lunch directly to the homes of Italians throughout the Peninsula with the possibility of offering it to the most needy thanks to the suspended shopping initiative in a situation in which it is estimated there are 3,2 million Italians who during the parties do not have enough food.
