The Parisian auction entirely dedicated to the art collection, and not only, that belonged to Elsa Schiaparelli, Coco Chanel's antagonist, has just ended.
Born in Rome in 1890, she immediately devoted herself to fashion as a stylist and seamstress. Moving to London in 1915, she married Count William de Wendt de Kerlo, soon moving to New York where she loved to associate with artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray from whom she took inspiration for her subsequent fashion creations close to a concept "Dadaist".
Back in Paris she devoted herself with great creativity and imagination to various collections, all different but with a soul very sensitive to the artistic currents of the period. No extravagance but a lot of originality, she is remembered for inventing the color shocking pink or the disclosure of the zipper and the "circus" collection with patterns, designs and colors all dedicated to the circus world. She died in Paris in 1973.
The cauction catalogue Christie's Paris, with 132 lots (fabrics and dresses, paintings and prints, furnishings and chandeliers, photographs, sculptures and various objects) saw a total of 1.683.750 Euros.
