Record-breaking digital payments: +10% in 2015

According to the World Payments Report 2016 published by Capgemini and Bnp Paribas, in 2015 transactions reached 426,3 billion – The increase in digital payments in developing countries stands out: +16,7%.

Record-breaking digital payments: +10% in 2015

For digital payments, 2015 was a record-breaking year. To say it is the World Payments Report 2016 (Wpr) published by Capgemini and Bnp Paribas according to which, in the past year, the annual increase in digital payments was 10%, up to 426,3 billion transactions, against a growth of 8,9% recorded in 2014, at 378,3 billion transactions.

The increase in digital payments, according to the report, is mainly due to the strong economic growth of the major developing countries, the spread of more effective security measures and government initiatives aimed at promoting electronic payments in emerging markets.

In developing countries, in fact, the growth rate was equal to 16,7% compared to the +6% recorded by mature markets which, however, still represent 71% of the total global volume. In first place for the number of transitions, among the countries, there is the United States, followed by the Eurozone, Brazil, China and the United Kingdom.
