Padoan: no VAT increase in 2018

For Padoan, therefore, "having confirmed the will of the Government to continue along the path of progressive reduction of the tax burden, the need remains to finance this reduction on a permanent basis".

"The intention of the Government in setting up the next Budget Law is to exclude" the VAT increase in 2018 under the safeguard clauses, "implementing an alternative manoeuvre". This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Pier Carlo Padoan, in the hearing on the 2017 Def, before the Budget commissions meeting in the Senate.

"The maneuver - he added - will be defined in the coming months". For Padoan, therefore, "once the Government's willingness to continue along the path of progressive reduction of the tax burden has been confirmed, there remains the need to finance this reduction on a permanent basis, so that the cuts are credible and fully express their potential benefit in consolidating growth of the economy".
