Hospitals: the best in Tuscany, the worst in Campania

Gold for Tuscany, silver for Emilia Romagna, bronze for Lombardy. This is the podium of the Italian regions classified according to the efficiency of the hospitals. Campania, Puglia and Molise appear at the bottom of the ranking. The data (not the ranking) were processed by Agenas, the National Agency for Health Services, which published the "2012 National Results Programme".

In certain structures, such as Di Venere (in Bari), mortality thirty days after hospitalization is a good forty-two times higher than in the best hospital in Italy, the Serristori in Florence. At Grottaglie in Taranto, on the other hand, a fracture of the femur is operated on within the canonical two days in only 1% of cases, against 94% at Sant'Eugenio in Rome, the fastest ever.

Agenas underlines that the data are not actually used to draw up rankings, but to obtain the maximum possible transparency and to allow the Regions to improve programming.
