TIM opens a new phase in the country's digitization process. The Mattarello plant, in the province of Trento, is the first plant on a national level entirely wired in fiber with Fiber to the home (FTTH) technology, so all the customers served by the plant will be able to migrate to the new network with the consequent shutdown of the network in copper.
Thanks to completion of the Mattarello plant in FTTH, which serves about 2.000 telephone lines in District 8 of the city, TIM intends to promote the transition to ultra-fast services for all customers served by this infrastructure, including those with other operators. The migration process will take place progressively on the basis of customer adhesions.
The agreement aims to inform citizens and promote in the community the benefits deriving from the adoption of new technologies, which allow a considerable increase in the quality of the service. Thanks to this operation, the plant will directly serve homes and offices with super-fast connections (up to 1 GB).
The objective of the agreement is to accelerate the digitization of the territory, give further impetus to economic growth and act as a point of reference in the process of digital transformation of the country. All of this, promoting the adoption of the best technologies by citizens, businesses and the Public Administration itself.
In the meantime, the company led by Luigi Gubitosi is continuing with the development plan of optical fiber in the Autonomous Province. Over the last year, interventions have been carried out to upgrade the network in 95 municipalities to wire over 100 property unitsthus bringing the total of homes and offices reached by ultra-broadband to 170. In addition, the company has launched an FTTH cabling program in nine cities by 2022: Trento, Rovereto, Pinzolo, Canazei, three villas, Pergine Valsugana, Riva del Garda, Isera and Volano.
The initiative was announced on the occasion of the signing of the digital cooperation agreement signed by Maurizio Fugatti, President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Franco Ianeselli, Mayor of Trento, and Luigi Gubitosi, Chief Executive Officer of TIM.
