In the outlying areas and rural villages of the Region, the company led by Elisabetta Ripa is building an ultra-broadband infrastructure, mainly in FTTH mode (Fiber To The Home, the fiber that arrives inside homes and businesses) which will remain public property and will be managed by the company under concession for 20 years.

The cabling plan involves over 450 real estate units in FTTH and FWA in 254 Municipalities. The telecommunications company is currently working in 76 municipalities and by the end of the year the service will be available in a total of 113 municipalities between FTTH and FWA.

The state of the art of the works was illustrated on Friday 2 April 2021 during a press conference in the Sala Pegaso of Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati by the President of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani, the Councilor for digitization Stefano Ciuoffo and the Head of network and operations in the Open center area Fiber Roberto Tognaccini.

“A major information highway is being built in our region,” he commented Stefano Ciuoffo -. An infrastructure that will touch a large part of the villages and hamlets. This is a considerable effort that we are carrying out aware of the absolute need to guarantee equal opportunities in this area to all areas of the Region. This network will also be essential for the revitalization of small municipalities, whose economy and tourism are suffering greatly from the closures imposed by the pandemic".

“Our goal is to reduce the digital divide in the Region and we currently have construction sites open in all the provinces – he declared Roberto Tognaccini, Head of network and operations in the Open Fiber Smart center area – The type of technology we carry will make it possible to eliminate the gap, in access to now indispensable services, between those who live in small villages and in large cities. We are looking to a future in which Smart working, distance learning, HD streaming, home automation, gaming, digital PA will be guaranteed to everyone. Like Open Fiber, given the delicate moment that Italy is going through, we have made an effort to wire 415 school complexes throughout the Region, 82 of which in the white areas".
