Open Fiber, new plan: 11 billion investments by 2031

Open Fiber lift the veil on business plan 2022-2031 approved by the Board of Directors on 3 December. The document provides investments of 11 billion euros with the aim of extending fiber coverage to approximately 24 million residential units (from the current 13). Coverage, explains the company, will be guaranteed by the extension of the financing to 7,2 billion euros, by equity and cash generation. It is expected at the end of the plan a margin higher than 75%Over 2 billion euros in revenues. break even (Ebitda after investments) is expected to the 2026.

From the point of view of the users, the most significant change compared to the previous plan is the extension of the vhcn coverage (Very High Capacity Network) at gray areas, those in which there is only one network operator and where no one else has plans to develop a Nga (Next Generation Access) network.

"The breadth of financial resources available on the basis of the agreement with the banks - continues the note - makes it possible to accelerate and achieve all the objectives of the old plan, therefore to participate to all tenders envisaged within the framework of the Pnrr for gray areas, and to be able to plan the additional coverage to be implemented in the gray areas of the market".

In June 2022, once the tenders called by the Ministry of Infrastructure have been closed, Open Fiber will define in detail the coverage plan for the new portion of gray areas in which it will be possible to operate under competitive conditions. To this end, the company will be able to draw on an additional 2,8 billion euro credit line.

“We are ready to complete coverage of cities, small towns and industrial areas - said Mario Rossetti, CEO of Open Fiber - offering a decisive contribution to the objectives of the Italy 1 Giga Plan for the reduction of the digital divide in our country".

The marketing of connectivity services on the network created by Open Fiber is active in 190 large and medium-sized cities and in over three thousand small municipalities. More than 200 national and international operators have entered into commercial agreements with Open Fiber for the use of its network.
