In February, unemployment in the euro area increased – and for the eighth consecutive month – by 0,1 percentage points, reaching 10,8%. This is the new record since the beginning of the crisis. This is what emerges from the latest OECD data on employment.
Among the Euroland countries, the rate rose by 0,1% in Austria (to 4,2%) and Luxembourg (to 5,2%), by 0,2 points in Italy (to 9,3%) and Portugal (at 15%), by 0,3 points in Spain (at 23,6%, the highest in the Eurozone). Rate down by 0,1 points in Finland (to 7,4%) and the Netherlands (to 4,9%). Unemployment stable in all other countries.
On the other hand, the rate in the OECD area as a whole remains stable. The international organization communicated that in February the value remained fixed at 8,2%, the same as in December and January.
