But that's not all: there are also the tweets of the president himself to make history. The first appears at 5.15am Italian time, just as overseas televisions and radios were starting to reveal the verdict: “This happened because of you. Thank you."
Just seconds later, in the wake of his excitement at the extraordinary (and indisputable) result, Obama adds another tweet: “We're all in this together. That's how we campaigned, and that's who we are. Thank you. –bo”. But the tweet that will go down in history (also shared on Facebook), and which according to the specialized site Buzzfeed is the most popular ever, arrives after a couple of minutes, exactly at 5.19 am Italian time: “Four more years” reads the text, accompanied by a photo that is already making its way around the world, taken last August 15 at the end of a meeting in Iowa.
The intense embrace between the president and first lady Michelle was retweeted almost 400 times in just two hours (it then exceeded half a million in the Italian morning), while on Facebook within an hour it already had one million like and 180 thousand shares. Well done, Mr President.
