“Palestinians have the right to their own state”. This was stated by the president of the United States Barack Obama, opening the press conference in Ramallah together with the Palestinian president Abu Mazen.
Obama, visiting Israel in recent days, is pressing for an immediate return to negotiations, launching a message of hope for peace. The agreement in principle between the two parties should be based on the recognition of the State of Palestine by the Israelis, while the Palestinians should provide "security guarantees to Israel".
At the heart of Obama's proposal and the United States remains "Two-State Vision". For the US president, the Palestinian state must be "independent, able to sustain itself, with territorial contiguity, alongside the State of Israel".
