Nielsen: mobile banking boom, +80% in 2015

They are 9,9 million Italians who entered the online areas reserved for customers of Italian banks in June 2015, of these, 2,9 million use information services and devices via mobile. Over the past 12 months their number increased by about 80%. 79% of mobile customers access services via smartphone. These are the data that emerged from the eFinance Report, a Nielsen survey on the evolution of the banking market on digital channels.

Mobile phones are used by two thirds of customers to check balances and movements and regularly to top up telephone or prepaid cards. The share of those who access these services from smartphones or tablets, explains Nielsen, is similar to that of those who access them from a PC. On the other hand, the computer remains the preferred platform for making transfers, where the value of the transaction is on average higher.

The study also shows that the development of mobile banking is linked not only to the diffusion of advanced devices, but also to the expansion of the offer by Italian banking institutions which are gradually making applications available for the three main operating systems.
