After days of indecision, they have arrived the rules valid for Christmas and New Year. Italy will be in the red zone on public holidays and before public holidays starting from December 24th and until January 6th. On weekdays, on the other hand, the whole country will be in an orange zone. In total there will be 10 days of total lockdown, while partial closures are expected for the remaining 4 days (28, 29, 30 December and 4 January).
Here the rules and above all the prohibitions in force for the holidays.
RED AND ORANGE ZONE: THE CALENDAR
The rules established today will be in force from 24 December to 6 January. In detail Italy will be a red zone:
- on 24, 25, 26, 27 December;
- on 31 December, 1, 2 and 3, 5 and 6 January.
La orange zone will instead be in effect:
- on 28, 29, 30 December;
- the 4 January.
TRAVEL RULES
Remains in effect curfew from 22pm to 5am. There is also a ban on the movement of more than two people, as an exception to the traffic block. On the days it is in effect the red zone circulation is prohibited for non-essential reasons. You can therefore move, self-certification in hand, for reasons of health and work and need and net of the exceptions of the two guests. Bars, restaurants and shops remain closed, but take-away and home delivery are still allowed, by 22pm.
On the days it will be in effect the orange zone, bars and restaurants remain closed, while shops and also hairdressers, pharmacies, parapharmacies, bookshops, newsstands, florists, toy and sportswear shops, tobacconists and hardware stores, laundries and pet shops can open. Naturally closed shopping centers and markets except for the sale of groceries. Movements outside one's own municipality are prohibited, with the exception of those who live in small municipalities under 5 thousand inhabitants. In the latter case it will be allowed to move, but remaining within a radius of 30 km.
THE DEROGATIONS
There is the so-called “two diners” derogation in the restrictive measures that will be put in place for the Christmas holidays. In both red and orange zone days, without prejudice to the ban on moving between Regions, a maximum of two non-cohabiting people are allowed to visit private homes. The under 14s are not counted from the derogation, whose movements will therefore be allowed. The softer line desired by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte therefore won: even for Christmas and New Year's dinners and lunches it will be possible, in addition to cohabitants, to invite two guests at home.
RESTAURANTS FOR BARS AND RESTAURANTS
Already at the Cabinet meeting on Friday evening were allocated another 645 million euro of refreshments for restaurateurs and bartenders.
