Home loans, market boom in 2014: +31,2% in 11 months

Above all, variable-rate mortgages grew, accounting for more than 78% of total new disbursements.

One of the economic reasons to remember the year that is about to end is the surge in home mortgages. According to data released today by the ABI, in the first 11 months of 2014 loans granted by Italian banks for the purchase of homes grew by almost a third on an annual basis (+31,2%). The sample on which the survey is based includes 84 credit institutions, which represent approximately 80% of the entire Italian market.

In the January-November period these banks disbursed new mortgages for a total amount of 22,465 billion euro, a result higher than both the figure for the first eleven months of 2012 (18,794 billion) and the value for the whole of 2013 (19,085 billion) and of the whole of 2012 (20,712 billion).

Above all, variable-rate mortgages grew, accounting for more than 78% of total new disbursements. This value was 77% in the same period of 2013 and 70% in the first eleven months of 2012.
