Market manipulation. This is the hypothesis of a crime contained in two documents that the Consob sent last Friday to the Prosecutor of Siena. It is a "Report for the commission" of 5 folders and a "Technical note" of 27 pages drawn up by the Market Abuse office.
Massimo Giannini wrote this this morning in "La Repubblica", quoting the Commission's complaint verbatim: "Configurability of the offense of market manipulation - writes Consob - with regard to conduct by Banca MPS representatives in the structuring of a capital strengthening for the acquisition of Banca Antonveneta and the information on the supervisory capital and capital ratios of Banca Mps shown in the half-yearly report as at 30 June 2008”.
An accusation that adds to those for which the former leaders of MPS already have to answer (fraud, embezzlement, obstacle to supervision).
"From the examination of the documents - continues Consob - elements emerge on the basis of which it seems appropriate to communicate to the Public Prosecutor of Siena that the crime of market manipulation could be configured".
