Mps: the capital increase could rise to 2,5 billion

In order to finish repaying all the Monti Bonds in advance and at the same time satisfy the requests of the ECB and EBA, the capital increase of MPS could rise to 2,5 billion euros. This was reported by a source quoted by the Reuters agency.

The recapitalization had been announced last Sunday by the Bank following the rejection of the ECB stress tests, which had signaled a capital shortfall of 2,1 billion euro. The MPS note spoke of "total coverage" of the deficit through the increase.

To find out which path the Sienese management has decided to take, it will probably be enough to wait a few hours. This afternoon, the board of directors of the institute - which for the moment is not commenting on the latest rumors - will meet to make a decision on the amount of the recapitalization and on other (possible) initiatives to cover the shortfall.

Meanwhile, mid-morning the MPS share on the Stock Exchange (after the -41% recorded in October) continues on the path of recovery with a gain of 3,77%, 0,6745 euros. Yesterday in closing it had recorded a rise of 5,5%.
