Motorcycles, -23,2% registrations in July

The Italian motorbikes misfire and brake abruptly. In July, registrations fell by 23,3% on an annual basis, stopping at an altitude of 29.549 vehicles. According to data released by Confindustria Ancma, the heaviest decline was that of mopeds and scooters, which recorded a collapse of 26,9 and 26% respectively. Relatively better was the performance of motorcycles, which in any case recorded a significant contraction (-15,8%). Even more negative numbers if we consider that on average the month of July is worth 13% of total annual sales.

“This year's negative approach has not changed, which sees a reduction of the market to the levels reached at the end of the 90s – commented Corrado Capelli, president of Confindustria Ancma -. It is not only the absence of incentives that depresses sales, but the substantial lack of disposable income that leads customers to turn to the second-hand market. In fact, changes of ownership are up by 4% and volumes are almost double compared to the new market. However, to make up for lost ground, the efforts of manufacturers to develop innovative motorcycles and scooters both in terms of safety and environmental compatibility are not enough; it is necessary to stop the growing tax burden which affects operating costs through fuel excise duties, increases in insurance premiums, registration taxes and motorway tolls”.
