The festival is the flagship event of the Public Program | Rosa Barba and was conceived by the artist in relation to the exhibition "From Source to Poem to Rhythm to Reader" in Pirelli HangarBicocca from 5 May to 8 October 2017. Rosa Barba's work, in fact, - mainly focused on cinema and its constituent elements – maintains an intimate link with sound and music, involving numerous musicians.

The American drummer Chad Taylor opens the early evening programme, with a performance within the exhibition: an improvisation for percussion that dictates the rhythm of Rosa Barba's light installation, Hear, There, Where the Echoes Are (2016). The evening continues with two singers who lent their voices to the film Subconscious Society, a Feature (2014): the American composer and artist David Michael DiGregorio and the French musician Laetitia Sadier, known as the voice of the group Stereolab. DiGregorio presents Songs, a sound performance based on the accumulation and layering of different songs to create a single composition of electronic music, while Sadier will perform with the Source Ensemble presenting his new album, "Find Me Finding You", released in recent for Drag City.

The second evening is dedicated to the musical projects of Rosa Barba's regular collaborator, Jan St. Werner, and opens with Glottal Wolpertinger, an installation performance which represents the culmination of a ten-week project for the documenta 14 Radio Program with the participation of Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner, two members of the famous rock band The National.

Glottal Wolpertinger's live performance comes straight from Athens to Milan and is centered on constant sound experimentation and research aimed at breaking away from the traditional conception of music.

Closes SUMMER WHISPERS Mouse on Mars, one of the most incisive and versatile German electronic music projects, the duo, formed by Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma, which for over twenty years has been at the center of the international music scene, inflaming dancefloors and clubs around the world with its anarchic spirit and frenetic sonorities.

SUMMER WHISPERS is organized with the collaboration of Pedro Rocha, Music and Sound Performance Curator, Pirelli HangarBicocca, and in partnership with ZERO
