Milan and Inter draw 1-1 in the derby of missed opportunities

SERIE A CHAMPIONSHIP – The derby della Madonnina ends in a draw (1-1), which will be remembered as the derby of regrets and missed opportunities due to the sensational goals missed by Icardi first and then by El Sharaarawy – Di Menez and Obi the real goals – Inzaghi and Mancini make the best of a bad lot – Very tactical match but not at all spectacular

Milan and Inter draw 1-1 in the derby of missed opportunities

Milan remains without a master. The derby della Madonnina ends 1-1, a draw which essentially reflects the values seen on the pitch. That is, a few technically speaking but this is certainly not new. The stage (sold out and record takings) would be from the Champions League, the game instead is from provincial football. Milan and Inter take home one point each which, according to the standings, is of little use to both but which, on the other hand, can be considered positive in terms of morale. The same goes for Inzaghi, whose project is still an open construction site and, even more so, for Mancini, who arrived a week ago and is therefore justified.

“It was a good race, very balanced – thought SuperPippo. – We gave everything, I have nothing to reproach the team even if the final chances cry out for revenge. The ranking? I don't look at it..." The Rossoneri coach is right not to do it, because third place (a seasonal objective indicated by the club) is 4 points away and, at this rate (4 draws and 1 defeat in the last 5 games) it will remain only a beautiful dream. The reasoning also applies to Inter who, after yesterday's draw, are in ninth place in the standings, 5 points behind the Champions League position and with 6 teams ahead.

“After five days of work I certainly couldn't ask for more – explained Mancini. – We have to improve in the game, to become a real team we will have to work hard but, all in all, I'm satisfied because we had a good race". In short, both technicians try to look at the full side of the glass, inevitable after a derby that both could have won, but also lost.

The festival of regrets turned out to be as rich as ever. The first to sign up was Icardi, capable of wasting a big gift from Muntari (8') face to face with Diego Lopez, in the second half El Shaarawy joined him, whose mistake (sensational crossbar only in front of Handanovic), for certain verses, is even more sensational. But anyhow, Milan is in a football crisis and we have to be satisfied. All in all, the derby offered a decent show, especially when the teams, overwhelmed by fatigue, ended up uncovering each other a bit.

For over an hour instead it was a very tactical game, the result of the organization of the game and, above all, of the fear of losing. Milan interpreted it in her way: waiting and restarts, in the hope of turning on the arrows of the house (El Shaarawy and Menez). And it was precisely on that axis that the 1-0 goal was born: a cross by the Italian-Egyptian and a right-footed volley (beautiful) by the French (23'). But Inter, albeit with all the limitations of the case, is already a different team than the disastrous one of the last Mazzarri. Mancini immediately tried to propose his ideas: ball possession and physicality, with Kovacic on the trocar free to invent football. However, the Croatian didn't respond well by playing too wide and far from goal.

"He can certainly do better but tonight I didn't expect much more" glossed over the Nerazzurri coach, aware that there will be a lot of work to do to bring his 10 to the desired levels. The real rejection comes instead from Torres: is it possible that this is the same player admired in Spain and in England? “I let him play because I see him well in training – Inzaghi defended himself. – I have a duty to try, we need his goals if we want to go far ”.

Yesterday evening, for Milan and Inter, those of Icardi and El Shaarawy would have been enough, a pity that the aim was not exactly at the top. Maurito, after missing the goal of the possible 0-1, hit the crossbar with a nice turn (79'), Pharaoh literally devoured the 2-1 face to face with Handanovic (75'). Inter consoled themselves with Obi, very good at exploiting an uncertain postponement from Zapata and beating Diego Lopez with a cross left foot (61'). The 1-1, as previously mentioned, is a result that fits but which, evidently, also leaves some regrets. Milan does not sink but neither does it climb back up. And this, after a third of the championship, cannot be taken as a positive fact, not if the goal is to come back great.
