Microsoft: expected 7.800 cuts in 2015

Microsoft will cut 7.800 jobs this yearespecially in the telephony sector. The company founded by Bill Gates therefore confirmed the anticipation of the New York Times which this morning spoke of "considerable" cuts that they will be added to the 18 redundancies planned last year. The company currently employs over 118 people globally. The layoffs, continues the NYT, will also affect workers in the hardware sector, including the smartphone sector taken over by Nokia last year in a $7,2 billion deal.

The layoffs come on the eve of the July 29 launch of Windows 10, the first multiplatform operating system for computers, smartphones and tablets with which Microsoft aims to attract app developers and relaunch itself in the mobile market, where the Redmond company continues to lose market share to the advantage of Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms . Last month Stephen Elop, the former CEO of Nokia who became Microsoft's top manager in the mobile division after the acquisition, announced the abandonment of the company. Also last month, Microsoft announced the sale of its online advertising business to AOL, e the sale to Uber of part of its map business. The move is yet another in which CEO Satya Nadella shows his willingness to withdraw from businesses with weak performance to make Microsoft more focused on strategic ones.
