Weather: record heat, drought warning

Do you remember the summer of 2003? Well, this one that officially started today, June 21, 2017, could be even worse. Certainly it was the month of June, which in the end according to what has been done so far and the forecasts for the next few days will mark temperatures never recorded before, i.e. from absolute record for 150 years (since revelations were made): the African anticyclone Charon is bringing temperatures close to 40 degrees, especially in the North but also in the South and on the major islands.

The heat will be slightly less severe in the central regions, where it will still easily exceed 35 degrees in the maximum values. The hottest area will be the Po Valley, especially in the areas of Modena, Mantua and Ferrara where temperatures could exceed 40 degrees, as well as some areas of Sardinia and Sicily.

This heat wave will be more intense than the previous one both in terms of intensity and duration. The situation will not change at least until early next week (it could cool off between Sunday and Monday, according to forecasts), and all this will inevitably lead to an aggravation of the drought problem. In fact, in some areas of Italy it hasn't rained for weeks and the spring that just ended was the second hottest in the last 60 years and above all one of the driest, with a rainfall deficit of -39%. According to estimates this year about 20 billion cubic meters of water would be missing throughout the national territory.
