Mes, Meloni opens to ratification but Italy will not use it: it is the most important political novelty of Christmas

First signs of the Prime Minister's opening on the Mes: "Italy will not use it but it will not block the reform that all of Europe has already signed up to"

Mes, Meloni opens to ratification but Italy will not use it: it is the most important political novelty of Christmas

“As long as I count something, that theItaly do not access the Month I can sign it in blood”: these are the words of the premier Giorgia Meloni in Bruno Vespa's living room, Porta a Porta. But the stentorian voice must not mislead because in reality it hides a big political novelty and an initial opening to the bailout fund that will make pro-Europeans happy. It is one thing not to use the Mes and another thing is to block a reform that is all Europe has already approved and which only Italy has not ratified so far. And in fact, the Christmas novelty is right here because Meloni makes it clear that even our country, albeit the last one, will arrive at the ratification of the new Mes. Better late than never.

MELONI: THE PARLIAMENT WILL DISCUSS THE MONTH. BUT IT'S A BIG STEP FORWARD

It is an important step that of Meloni who reconciles Italy with Europe even if, to make it metabolize to hers, the premier must climb a bit on straws and try to minimize it. “I don't think this is the big issue – the Prime Minister tries to reduce the novelty -, but of course, if we remain the only ones who do not approve the reform, we will also block the others. Parliament will eventually discuss it”. But the die seems cast and the Parliament will not remain insensitive to the signal from the prime minister who is preparing to make a courageous choice after having, probably, listened to the wise advice of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

“But the question is – Meloni screens off -: before entering the debate on ratification, can we make this instrument useful? The director of the Mes said that they are open to Italy's solution, I would like to speak with him to understand if there is a way to take a fund that no one will have access to, certainly not Italy, and make it a useful fund for someone. with fewer conditionalities, different priorities. One thing you don't risk putting a noose around your neck."

MELONI: THE BUDGET MANEUVER CAN BE IMPROVED

These are reasonable observations that somewhat cover the difficulties that the Government is encountering in Parliament on the matter budget maneuver, where the amateurism and inexperience of the new Executive can be seen with the naked eye. But it is also fair to recall that from the end of the 70s to today, parliamentary approval of the maneuver has always been troubled. "The maneuver can be improved, we are running in - defends the prime minister - but the words of those who thought of the departure of the government as a catastrophe are going back like a boomerang".
