Merkel: “Eurobonds not sustainable”

Merkel: “Eurobonds not sustainable”

“There are no miraculous tools against the crisis: Eurobonds are not sustainable“. After days of melina and diplomacy, the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, raise your voice again in the Bundestag fort. And she does so by rejecting the forbidden dream of half of Europe, the bonds guaranteed at the community level. Thunderous applause from the entire Berlin Parliament. By their nature, Eurobonds would weigh more heavily on the shoulders of the leading European economy, Germany, which today however continues to record record yields on Bunds, which have never been so low.

The Chancellor therefore limits herself to reiterating her rigorous line: “The debt brake and growth are the two pillars“. That is to say: no growth by issuing bonds, but "through structural reforms" which will require "commitment and time".

The last to support the cause of Community titles were the president of the European Commission, Manuel Barroso - who had even secured an agreement on this point by the end of June -, and our prime minister, Mario Monti.
