Italian car market: boom in April, still a record for FCA

Registrations in Italy have risen by more than 24% in the last month – with the FCA group recording the largest increase since January 2010, up nearly 25%.

Registrations of new cars in Italy rose by 24,16% in April to 148.807 units. This is what emerges from the data released by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. For the FCA group, the increase in the month is equal to 24,89% to 43.339 units, with a share that rises to 29,12%, from 28,95% a year earlier. In the first four months, the market recorded a growth of 16,2% to 578.088 units with the FCA group recording an increase of almost 17% to 164.548 with a market share of 28,46% (from 28,27%).

The FCA group, with a 24,9% increase in registrations in April, marked the largest increase since January 2010. Considering the FCA brands, in April for Fiat there was a 21,2% increase in registrations to 32.387 units, which for Jeep more than tripled to 2.684 (from 761), while for Alfa Romeo they were almost stable (-0,83%) to 2.756 and for Lancia/Chrysler they were up by 24,1% to 5.512. For Ferrari -7,7% to 24 and for Maserati +4,3% to 121. In the four months the Fiat brand scores +13,4% to 121.375 and Jeep +287% to 10.703. Alfa Romeo (+3,6% to 11.234) and Lancia/Chrysler (+6,2% to 21.236) also performed well. For Ferrari -1% to 98 and for Maserati +10,3% to 514. Market leader in Italy among foreign brands Volkswagen with a share of 8,1% and sales up 16,8%, ahead of Ford which covers 6,90% with sales up 23,8%.

All foreign brands report an upward performance, apart from Jaguar (-44,8%) and Chevrolet (-95,5%). Major increases, among others, for Lexus (+161,3%), Volvo (+77,8%), Seat (+71%), Renault (+70,4%), Citroen (+61,1%) , Mitsubishi (+65,6%), Opel and Peugeot (+31,6% each). In the top range BMW +13,9% and Mercedes +1,46%. In January-April Volkswagen is the leader in terms of share among foreign brands with 8,22% (+4,75% sales), ahead of Ford with 6,5% (+24% sales). Almost all foreign companies recorded progress in the period. Highlights Lexus (+136,8%), Seat (+54,9%), Citroen (+36,8%), Mitsubishi (+63,2%), Opel (+24,7%), Renault (+ 36,4%) and Volvo (+30,4%). In the top range BMW +11% and Mercedes +10%.
