Mediobanca: FCA effect, automotive record

In 2016, the automotive sector in Italy recorded the best performance in terms of sales among all production sectors. This is what emerges from the report compiled by the Mediobanca research office on the basis of the cumulative data of 2065 Italian companies, i.e. all large companies with more than 500 employees and 20% of medium-sized ones.

The automotive sector benefited significantly from the driving effect of FCA Italy without whose contribution it would have had a much lower result, equal to 2,2%.

Last year the TV broadcasting sectors did well (+5,8%, thanks to the effect of the license fee on the bill), the local utilities (+3,9%, water, motorways and so on) and then some manufacturing sectors including: glass (+3,4%), pharmaceuticals (+3,3%), clothing (+2,9%) and food specialties (confectionery and canning: +2,3%; beverages: +2%; various groceries: +3%).

Among the sectors that instead had the worst performances, the oil sector (-19,5%), household appliances (-8,1%), EEG (-7,1%), construction companies (-5,3 .4,8%) and press-publishing (-XNUMX%).

Despite the good overall data for 2016, the burden of the crisis remains heavy to dispose of: turnover is below the pre-crisis level (2008) by 6,4%, especially in the public sector (-17,8%). The tertiary sector (+2,8%) and manufacturing (+0,8%) grew, again thanks to the mid-corporate (+6,7%). The large manufacturing groups are doing well (+11,4%), but without the automotive sector they would be below the pre-crisis level of 6,8%.
