On 19 March 2002, the Italian labor lawyer and academic Marco Biagi died in Bologna, the victim of an attack by the New Red Brigades.

Heirs of the well-known terrorist movement, the New BRs were the protagonists of a series of murders whose ultimate aim was to create terror and annihilate the domination of the bourgeoisie once and for all. The organization led by Nadia Desdemona Lioce e Mario Galesi, arrested in 2003, struck Marco Biagi because of the law he promoted on the flexibility of employment contracts.

18 years after the shooting that took place in Via Valdonica, under Biagi's house, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies together with theADAPT (Association for International and Comparative Labor Law and Industrial Relations Studies) have announced a competition that aims to award the best degree thesis and the best doctoral thesis whose research object is labor law and industrial relations, i.e. Marco Biagi's area of ​​specialization.

Given that the object of the discussion must be labor law, all those who have obtained a degree can participate in the competition master's degree in economics, a single-cycle degree in law or a research doctorate in disciplines related to the theme chosen to honor Biagi. Only theses written and discussed in the period between 21 March 2019 and 11 February 2020 will be evaluated. However, it is not clear whether people with degrees from public universities or even telematic ones can participate. UniCusano.

A special Commission, made up of five people who are experts in labor law and industrial relations, will be in charge of reading the documents that will arrive and evaluating them on the basis of the following criteria:

● originality and relevance of the topic dealt with;
● use of the comparative method;
● scientific methodology used and relevance of the results obtained;
● deepening of bibliographic research.

The master's degree thesis and the doctoral thesis that best respond to these characteristics will be awarded. The recent graduate and the recent doctorate will each take home 3000 euros. Given the importance and burden of the award, in gang it is explicit that the Commission can avoid awarding the prize if it does not deem the works worthy.

The application to participate must be sent by 15.00 pm on February 12, 2020 to the email address [email protected]The subject line must be "Marco Biagi Awards 2020" and the following files must be uploaded as attachments:

● pdf copy of a valid identity document;
● printable pdf copy of the degree or doctoral thesis;
● a summary abstract of the treatment that does not exceed 3 pages.

It is a right way to remember Marco Biagi: to transform the tragedy into an opportunity for young students animated by a passion for the theme of work. The same passion that animated Biagi in his profession and in his studies.
