"It is no secret that Alfa Romeo is one of the most important projects of my career, which also involves me emotionally": said the CEO of FCA, Sergio Marchionne, presenting the Giulia at the historic Alfa plant in Arese, the new jewel of Alfa which aims to sell 400 cars and which constitutes the first stage of Alfa's awaited relaunch. After the Giulia, another seven new Alfa-branded models are on the way.
"The relaunch of Alfa, Marchionne underlined, would have been impossible without the merger between Fiat and Chrysler" and fills a void that cries out for revenge. "Leaving Alfa as it was to compete with mass-market brands would have meant betraying the spirit and values of Alfa and also betraying all the men and women who have shaped its legend in over a century", because – he Marchionne argued – giving a voice to the real Alfa "was a duty, even a moral one".
After reiterating that the problem of consolidation and alliances is a priority for the car industry, Marchionne anticipated that before 2018 all workers at the Mirafiori plant will return from layoffs.
