Lvmh is committed to water conservation: a plan to reduce the Group's water footprint by 30% by 2030

In response to growing population pressure and the consequences of global warming, water has become an increasingly stressed resource. Restrictions on use and the need to adopt specific action plans prompted the French government to launch a water conservation plan in March 2023. Following this line and in extension of the energy sobriety plan presented last September, the Lvmh Group has announced its global water conservation plan, aiming at the responsible management of this fundamental natural resource.

Lvmh's commitment to water conservation on a global scale

Water is an essential component of the Lvmh Group's activities, both in the Wines & Spirits division and in the Perfumes & Cosmetics division, as well as for the raw materials used in the Fashion & Leather Goods division. It contributes directly to the high quality of the products developed by Lvmh, therefore the Group has assumed the responsibility to act to preserve it.

In line with the Life 360 programme, monitoring water consumption is an integral part of Lvmh's environmental policy, which annually measures the water footprint of its activities. Hennessy, for example, has long worked to reduce water consumption in its manufacturing processes and plans to reduce it by 26% between 2019 and 2022. In the Fashion and Leather Goods division, Loro Piana reduced water consumption by 25% in the same period thanks to the installation of wastewater recycling equipment in its main factory.

In December 2022, Lvmh has been recognized for its leadership in terms of transparency and climate, forest and water protection performance from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a world-renowned non-profit environmental organization. Lvmh obtained triple A, a recognition awarded for the first time.

High ambitions and concrete actions to reduce the group's water footprint

Considering the urgency of the water situation in France and in many regions of the world, Lvmh has raised the bar and added a new objective to its Life 360 global environmental strategy: reduce the Group's overall water footprint by 30% by 2030.

To achieve this goal, Lvmh has implemented a series of actions, including the improvement of water footprint measurement throughout the Group's value chain, the use of the most efficient technologies for the reuse of wastewater and the recovery of rainwater, the introduction of low water consumption production processes and the Group's regenerative agriculture programme improve soil quality and its ability to retain water.

Furthermore, Lvmh intends to make its customers aware of the importance of water conservation through the environmental labeling of its products.
