Letta goes to Napolitano to study countermoves to the PDL offensive

The Premier has decided to verify as soon as possible the holding of the majority in the Chamber and considers the showdown of the pidiellini on the Berlusconi case "a humiliation for Italy".

Letta goes to Napolitano to study countermoves to the PDL offensive

"As soon as I landed in Rome, I went to Napolitano for a clarification on how to proceed”. The premier said so from New York Enrico Letta, underlining that "a clarification is needed in the government and in Parliament: I want to decide the modalities together with Napolitano". This is the Prime Minister's reaction to the last one exploits of the PDL parliamentarians, who have threatened to resign en masse in the event that Palazzo Madama sanctions the forfeiture of Silvio Berlusconi from the office of senator.

The stance aroused yesterday a harsh reaction from the President of the Republic, in addition to the bitterness of the Premier, who has decided to verify as soon as possible the holding of the majority in the Chamber. Letta judges “a humiliation for Italy” the raising of shields of the pidiellini, and expresses “deep agreement for the words of the Head of State, from the first to the last word”, underlining how much Napolitano is to be considered as “a beacon, a guide”.

According to the president of the PDL deputies, Renato Brunetta, "it is truly Italy that is being humiliated, but not by Berlusconi and the Forza Italia parliamentarians, but by Letta's party mates, who in the council for the elections to the Senate trample on the Constitution and democracy, retroactively applying to Senator Berlusconi the so-called Severino law. Reacting to injustice is the noblest thing a person elected by the people can do. We do not accept being treated as irresponsible by those who assist with indifference, or worse with connivance, the premeditated elimination of a people's leader like Silvio Berlusconi".
