Letta: "IMU solution by August, privatization plan with CDP in the autumn"

The government will find a agreement to modify the IMU by August, while in the autumn it will present a privatization plan in which Cassa depositi e prestiti will be involved. This was announced today by the Prime Minister, Enrico Letta.

After the clash between the PDL and Economy Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni – which he advised against totally abolishing the Imu on the first house, as instead Silvio Berlusconi's party would like -, Letta defined the controversies as "important substantive issues that will find their synthesis point at the end of this month of August, when we must necessarily present the solutions to the expiring problems including also the one on the taxation of the first home”.

As for the privatization plan, “the Government intends to present it to the country and to the markets in the autumn – explained the Premier again in the press conference on the CDP's 2013-2015 industrial plan -. It is evident that Cassa depositi e prestiti will be part of this work, and the fact that the perimeter of the Cassa has grown is also part of this”.

Letta, on the other hand, did not go too far on the hypothesis of a entry of the CDP into the capital of Telecom Italia. “Around this theme – she said – there are evolutions and discussions, but this goes beyond today's theme. At the moment there is no mention of hypotheses of this kind ". The president of Cassa, Franco Bassanini, confirmed that "the word Telecom is not in the plan".

As regards the general economic situation, the Premier admits that signs of recovery can now be glimpsed, but underlines the risk that Italy will return to growth without creating jobs: "We want a recovery that is not anemic - he explained - and we want to deal with the social problems that this season of profound crisis has brought, discomforts for all to see. The social climate is tiring and full of difficulties. Growth must be linked to work because the risk of an autumn and a 2014 with growth that restarts decoupled from employment dynamics is, in our opinion, the greatest risk”.

As for the recent decrease in the Btp-Bund differential, “it shows that Italy can once again be trusted – concluded Letta -. I hope that Italian politics does not forget the importance of interest rates and the spread”.
