Lenovo buys Motorola from Google for 2,91 billion

It's official: the Chinese giant Lenovo has bought Motorola from Google, winning not only the telephony brand, but also part of the portfolio of solutions and projects already implemented or arriving on the market. All for $2,91 billion.

“The two brands will coexist – assures Lenovo -, but they will be used for different and complementary markets”: Motorola in the USA, Latin America and Europe; Lenovo in the rest of the world and especially in Asia.

“Today we reached a historic milestone – commented Yang Yuanqing, CEO of Lenovo – a milestone for Lenovo and Motorola and together we are ready to compete, grow and win in the global smartphone market. By becoming the third largest smartphone maker in the world, able to challenge the first two, we will give the market what it needs: choice, competition and a new innovative drive. With Motorola we will move better in the mobile era, we will finally be able to offer a complete portfolio of products ranging from smartphones and tablets to devices for the professional market".

Lenovo's number one makes the other major acquisition of the group, that of IBM, of which the Chinese first took over the consumer sector (in 2005) and recently the server division, becoming the first computer manufacturer in the world.

According to Larry Page, CEO of Google, "Motorola is in good hands with Lenovo, a company at the forefront and focused on the maximum production of quality devices."
