The 100 best companies to work for in 2013: Google is first, no Italians in the standings

The best place to work in the world seems to be Google. It is crowned by the Great Place to Work Institute which every year researches and identifies excellent workplaces in over 45 countries around the world in a ranking. In second place is Sas Institute and third is Netapp, all companies in the information technology sector. "It tends to be a young sector - explains Alessandro Zollo, managing director of Great Place to Work Italy - which has a somewhat different approach to human resources from the traditional one, tending to free creativity and ingenuity".

The ranking of the best companies to work for is elaborated by evaluating various factors including employee satisfaction, salaries received, bonuses and benefits, management credibility, working environment harmony, working climate, culture company, the hiring rate, the human resource management method.

"It is the different approach - the company that draws up the ranking states - always aimed at winning the trust and satisfaction of employees with welfare and work-life balance strategies" that qualifies companies as excellent. Many American companies, for example, grant a week in the family, outside the holiday package, during the Christmas holidays to allow employees to spend additional time with their families.

Unfortunately, not even an Italian company appears among the top 100. None of the made in Italy companies has reached the range of the 25 best workplaces. And the Italian headquarters of the multinationals present in the ranking are also decreasing (there were twelve in 2011, today they are eight).

However, it must be emphasized that even in Italy there are excellences. Also in 2013, Great Place to Work Italia drew up two all-Italian rankings: the best Italian large companies 2013 and the best Italian small and medium enterprises 2013. Three of the first are Microsoft, Tetra Pak Packaging Solutions and the Dow Group in Italy on the podium; among the latter, however, the first 3 are Cisco Systems, WL Gore e Associati srl, Mars Italia SpA
