Work, Letta-union meeting: one billion young people are on the way

The provision arriving on Wednesday at the Council of Ministers should envisage the reduction of the mandatory break envisaged by the Fornero reform between two fixed-term contracts, probably at 10-20 days and one billion euros as an incentive (through the tax credit) for new permanent contracts for under-30s in the South

Work, Letta-union meeting: one billion young people are on the way

Prime Minister Enrico Letta confirmed to the trade union leaders of CGIL, CISL and UIL, Susanna Camusso, Raffaele Bonanni and Luigi Angeletti, "the government's intention to adopt a measure in favor of youth employment, encouraging permanent hiring". The Prime Minister also reiterated "the commitment to quickly reach a definition of the redundancy issue". The social partners communicated it in a joint note released at the end of this morning's informal summit at Palazzo Chigi with the Premier.

Yesterday Letta announced that "on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers the government will launch a national plan for youth employment, with particular attention to the South, but which will concern all of Italy". The provision should be made up of three fundamental points: reduction of the mandatory break envisaged by the Fornero reform between two fixed-term contracts, probably 10-20 days; one billion euros as an incentive (through the tax credit) for new permanent contracts for under-30s in the South; strengthening of employment services.

The incoming billion “is a start, but it is certainly not an exhaustive figure – commented the number one of Confindustria, Giorgio Squinzi -. In order to truly achieve an absorption of youth employment, it would first of all be necessary to create work and work is created if growth is found again. So it will not be an immediate thing, it is not with an incentive that the situation will change, unfortunately you see every day there are hundreds of cases of crisis in the Ministry of Economic Development, therefore first we need to change the country's economic climate and restart growth starting from manufacturing enterprise".

Camusso, Bonanni and Angeletti also “underlined the need for a strong stance and incisive action by the government on the new disputes that put thousands of jobs at risk” to the Prime Minister. CGIL, CISL and UIL then acknowledged "the willingness to address the proposed issues and underlined the need to start from the tax authorities to give real perspectives to work".

From the first days of July, the government and the trade unions will start a discussion "on the issues of tax evasion and income redistribution - the social partners announced again -, starting with the cut in taxation on employees and pensions".
