Work, Bank of Italy: with new measures to reduce the risk of stable contracts

Stable contracts could decrease and the available resources risk not being sufficient to finance the incentives for hiring young people. This was stated by Andrea Brandolini and Sandro Momigliano, from the Bank of Italy's research office, speaking before the Labor and Finance commissions of the Senate regarding the new decree on youth employment and VAT as regards entry flexibility. "There is the risk of weakening the objective of encouraging the use of permanent contracts pursued by the 2012 reform".

The trade unions also spoke on the same subject at Palazzo Madama. The CGIL has asked Parliament to correct the measures envisaged on the subject of the acausality of fixed-term contracts, as well as to stop further intervention on the consolidated text of apprenticeship. For the CISL, the Government must put in place, after this first step, an overall employment plan. Uil agrees: structural measures are needed to broaden the employment base and to reduce the tax burden on labor income.

As for the ABI, the banks believe that it is necessary to adopt more incisive choices for the relaunch of employment with the use of fixed-term contracts "further encouraged with a view to true liberalisation, perhaps connected to the 2015 expo period, but in any case extended to all territories and all sectors”.
