Between 2,5 and 3,2 million employed in 5 years. This is the number of workers that the Italian labor market may need between 2019 and 2023 between private and public administration.

The estimate is contained in the report Excelsior drawn up by Unioncamere and Anpal and relating to medium-term employment needs (2019-2023), disclosed at Job&Orienta, the national exhibition of orientation, school, training and work in progress in Verona.

Within the study we consider not only the needs and expansion of different sectors, but also the new opportunities created by the need to replace workers who will retire. Not only that, among the main drivers that will push up the overall demand for personnel there are both the "digital revolution" (Big data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things) that the Eco-sustainability that will require the involvement of respectively 213 thousand and 481 thousand workers.

“In particular – reads the analysis – beyond three quarters of the requirement will be linked to natural turnover employment (with a forecast for the next five years of between 2,1 million and 2,3 million), while economic growth will generate, depending on its intensity and in a highly differentiated manner in the various sectors, a share of new jobs ranging from from 427 to 905 units". 

THE SECTORS THAT WILL NEED WORKERS

The study by Unioncamere, for the five-year period 2019-2023, takes into consideration two different scenarios, A and B, which, according to what we read, determine a need gap of around 700 employed persons. Their realization depends on the trend of the GDP, on that of exports and on the effects of the economic policies launched by the Government.

As far as sectoral differentiation is concerned, the greatest demand for employees will come from the sector of business services, with 608 and 699 jobs. They follow:

  • health and education services (from 513 thousand to 629 thousand units).
  • manufacturing industry (333 thousand and 471 thousand units).

In the latter case, demand will be driven above all by generational turnover.

DIGITALIZATION AND ECO-SUSTAINABILITY

As regards the other sectors, digital transformation and eco-sustainability will form the basis of the employment plans of companies, representing approximately 30% of the employment requirement planned for the next 5 years.

“In detail – continues the report – companies will search between 210 thousand and 267 thousand workers with specific mathematical and IT, digital or 4.0 skills. Among the emerging professional figures, most in demand on the market, are experts in data analysis, information security, artificial intelligence, market analysis (also defined in the demand for new professions such as Data Scientist, Big Data Analyst, Cloud Computing Expert, Cyber ​​Security Expert, Business Intelligence Analyst, Social Media Marketing Manager, Artificial Intelligence Systems Engineer).

Eco-sustainability, on the other hand, will lead companies to seek between 480 and 600 jobs. Among the most sought-after profiles there will be: energy management expert, green chemist, green purchasing expert, environmental marketing expert, installer of low environmental impact systems.

Speaking instead of the "Health and Wellness" chain in the next 5 years, employment needs may vary between 323 thousand e 357 thousand units. Among the most sought after professions there will be: doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and medical laboratory technicians. It's still:

  • Education and culture: need for 134 thousand - 194 thousand unit: Jobs sought: teachers, training course planners, translators, planners and organizers of cultural events, experts in communication and marketing of cultural heritage.
  • Mechatronics and Robotics: 76 thousand e 106mila workers. The most requested figures: technicians for automation and mechatronic systems, technicians for the management and maintenance and use of industrial robots, designers of industrial plants and operators in charge of programming numerical control machines.
  • Mobility and logistics: between 78 and 99 workers. Wanted professions: logistics workers, air, naval and railway traffic controllers and drivers of heavy vehicles.
  • Energy: 38 thousand and 41 thousand unit. Professions: electricity production technicians, chemical controls operators and operators of waste recovery and recycling plants and water treatment and distribution.
