China slows down, overtaking India

Sudden braking of China, which is about to be overtaken byIndia in the economic growth chart.

According to data released by the Government of Beijing, in the first quarter of the year the GDP of the Dragon is increased 7% on an annual basis, thus recording the worst quarterly result since the beginning of 2009, when China too was overwhelmed by the long wave of the Lehman Brothers storm. In any case, the figure narrowly beat the expectations of analysts, who had predicted a more contained growth, at 6,9%.

The new estimates by the International Monetary Fund released yesterday confirm the forecast for China of a slowdown in GDP to +6,8% this year. Beijing will thus give India the first step of the podium: the IMF predicts that the subcontinent's economy will grow by 7,5% in 2015.

Returning to China, despite the downward pressure, economic growth, employment and prices remain in line with market expectations. However, according to various analysts, in order not to start stagnating, the Chinese economy needs to receive new stimuli from Beijing authorities, such as the rate cut and the reduction of the reserve requirement for banks, measures implemented in recent months to try to revive the growth of the Dragon economy.
