Juncker: "We need a Security Union"

In the aftermath of the tragic events in Brussels, Europe is preparing to react. While the Belgian police and intelligence work to capture Najim Laachraoui, the man on the run, considered the mastermind of yesterday's attacks and those in Paris on November 13, the continental political leaders analyze what happened trying to figure out what to do.

“These events concern us, but they don't scare us. Let us continue our work together to tackle the terrorist threat and to provide European solutions to problems that affect us all." This was the comment of the President of the European Commission Jean – Claude Juncker who intervened to convey his closeness to Belgium and to give an answer on behalf of the Community institutions to the events that occurred at the Zavantem airport and the Maelbeek underground.

Hitting Brussels means hitting the entire continent. For this reason, according to the number one of the Commission, a united Europe is called to react. To do this, however, promises of cooperation between states and between the various services are not enough: "We need a security union," said Juncker. The Europe of 28 must speed up the procedures that will finally allow us to achieve that all-round Union that we have been pursuing for years: politics, the economy and even security. Only in this way can the terrorist threat of Daesh be thwarted.

“Europe as a whole is affected. The European Union and the institutions must remain united and will remain united in the face of terror”, concluded the president.
