Throughout 2012, gross compensation per employee and labor costs in large enterprises increased respectively by 1,2% and 1,1% compared to 2011. This was revealed by Istat. However, wage growth in 2012 was ilower than inflation, which stood at 3%.
The growth rates of wages and labor costs between industry and services were different: in both cases the increase in industry was 2,5%, while that in services stopped at 0,5%.
Again according to Istat data, there is a decrease employment in large companies, down 0,9% year-on-year, gross of employees on layoffs. Net of the decline was 1,6%, following the contraction of employment, equal to 0,4%, recorded in 2011. The decline was sharper in industry (-2,9% net of layoffs ) compared to services (-0,8%).
In December, the number of hours worked per employee (net of employees in CIG) decreased by 2,7% on an annual basis. The decline recorded in the whole of 2012 was instead 0,8%.
