Istat: 2013 GDP -1,9%, IV quarter +0,1

The slight cyclical increase in the fourth quarter, Istat explained, is the synthesis of a positive trend in the added value in the agricultural and industrial sectors and a zero change in the added value in the service sectors.

Istat: 2013 GDP -1,9%, IV quarter +0,1

In 2013 the Italian GDP fell by 1,9%, marking an improvement compared to -2,5% in 2012. This was communicated by Istat, specifying that it is a preliminary estimate.

As for the solo fourth quarter, the gross domestic product returned to growth on a cyclical basis. The increase, limited to 0,1 %, marks the first positive change since the second quarter of 2011. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, however, GDP fell by 0,8%, still an improvement compared to -1,9% in the third quarter of 2013.

The slight cyclical increase – Istat explained – is the synthesis of a positive trend in the added value in the agricultural and industrial sectors and of a zero variation in the added value in the service sectors.

Also in the fourth quarter, GDP increased by 0,8% in the United States and 0,7% in the UK. In trend terms, there was a growth of 2,7% and 2,8% respectively.
