Istat: industry turnover in August +2,9% on month, -2,6% on year

The growth in the figure compared to July is linked above all to the +3,4% on the domestic market – Compared to August 2011, orders have collapsed: -9%.

Istat: industry turnover in August +2,9% on month, -2,6% on year

The turnover of the industry in August marks, net of seasonality, a growth of 2,9% on the previous month. The increase derives from an increase of 2% on the foreign market and 3,4% on the domestic one. This was communicated by Istat. On an annual basis, however, the total turnover, corrected for calendar effects, suffered a contraction of 2,6%, characterized by a sharp decline on the domestic market (-4,9%) and by a more contained increase on the foreign one (+2,3%). 

The index total fell 1,2% in the last three months compared to the previous quarter, while the various seasonally adjusted indices showed cyclical increases in turnover especially as regards the energy sector (+6,3%) and that of intermediate goods.

Still according to Istat, industry orders in August they rose by 0,7% month on month, but have plummeted year-on-year (-9%).

The slight improvement compared to July derives from the 2,5% increase in foreign orders, partially offset by the 0,6% decrease in domestic ones. The drop on an annual basis, on the other hand, was mainly caused by the very substantial decrease in the manufacture of means of transport (-47,5%).
