In January, the composite index of the confidence climate of Italian businesses rose to 86,8 points, from 83,8 in December. This was communicated by Istat, specifying that the trend of the overall index reflects a significant improvement in the confidence of businesses in the market services sector and those in the retail trade. On the other hand, the confidence of manufacturing companies and construction companies is decreasing.
Also between December and January, the manufacturing business confidence climate index fell from 98,2 to 97,7 points. Production expectations improve (the balance from 4 to 5) and assessments on order books remain stable (at -27). The figure relating to assessments on inventories passes from -4 to -1.
The analysis of the climate of confidence by main groupings of industries (Rpi) indicates an improvement in the indicator for capital goods (from 95,2 to 97,5) and a worsening for consumer goods (from 98,8 to 97,2 ,101,0) and for intermediate goods (from 98,4 to XNUMX).
The construction business confidence climate index fell from 82,2 in December to 76,5. Assessments on construction orders and/or plans and expectations on employment worsen (the respective balances from -42 to -49 and from -21 to -23).
The seasonally adjusted index of the confidence climate of services enterprises rose from 80,9 in December to 88,5. Expectations on the level of orders improve and, above all, on the trend of the economy in general (the relative balance varies from -36 to -24). Order ratings remain stable at -20.
In the retail trade, the confidence climate index increased from 90,7 in December to 93,5. The increase can be seen both in large-scale distribution (from 92,2 to 92,8) and in traditional distribution (from 90,7 to 94,8).
