Intesa Sanpaolo, Messina: "No to bad banks, business unit for non-performing loans"

Intesa Sanpaolo has “never had the intention of making one bad banks, a box in which to put the sufferings that go to die”. This was revealed today at the Fabi congress by the institute's managing director, Charles Messina, specifying that for suffering one thinks rather of “one business unit, but let's not talk about bad banks. I am also against a system bad bank: a business unit is better for managing the world of non-performing loans".

The manager then reiterated that the Bank “will try, over the course of the industrial plan, to eliminate participations that have a systemic and institutional connotation, as has already been done with Pirelli and Generali”. In the privatization of Poste Italiane, on the other hand, Intesa will play "an important role", Messina said again, specifying that however the institution's role in the operation has not yet been defined.

As for the accounting of capital gains linked to the revaluation of the share in the capital of Bankitalia, “Consob was very clear and did not impose accounting restrictions – continued the CEO -. In the council of 27 we will define them, then we will adjust accordingly. We don't need the revaluation, we have excess capital. If there can be a positive contribution, we will evaluate it”.

Finally, as regards the Bank's presence in the area, Messina announced that “of the current 4 branches 3.700 will remain, although there may be marginal adjustments.

At the beginning of the afternoon, Intesa Sanpaolo's share on the Stock Exchange increased by 0,4%.
