Two on a scooter at 16: now you can

The answer is yes: from today, Tuesday 18 August 2015, two people can go on a moped (for friends, the fifty) even if the driver is 16 or 17 years old. This is foreseen by one of the changes to the highway code that came into force. The novelty affects those who have an AM license (mandatory to drive a moped), A1 (which allows you to drive motorcycles of 125 cc and with power not exceeding 11Kw) and B1. Naturally, the vehicle must be approved for two people.

"The traffic ban - explains Asaps, the association of friends and supporters of the traffic police - will remain in force only for 14-15 year olds on mopeds and in the case of mopeds unsuitable for the transport of two people".

The law on exams for B, the most widespread, also changes: the examiner must have held a similar license for at least three years. For the others, the examiner will first have to take part in a training course. In addition, the degrees of upward field of vision required to obtain a license are increased from 25 to 30.

As far as disabled people and the transport of trailers are concerned, the transportable weight becomes unlimited if you are in possession of the new special licence. Until now the limit was set at 750 kilograms.
