It seems early, but we are already late for Imu and Tasi. Yesterday the Government and the Association of Municipalities (Anci) signed an agreement on the postponement of the deadline for the approval of the budgets of local authorities from 31 May to 30 July. The decision was also taken because the government decree on local authorities is still missing and many administrations will soon be involved in municipal and regional elections.
But the postponement implies that the decisions of the mayors on the Imu and Tasi rates, as well as on the additional income tax, will also arrive later than expected.
Consequently, not only will Italian taxpayers this year not be able to count on the single Local Tax initially envisaged and then postponed by the Renzi government, but they will probably also have to unpack the payment of the various taxes into at least two instalments.
The first to be paid in the summer (when the Municipalities have not yet established the new rates), using a basic percentage that is the same for everyone, or - as is more likely - the thresholds of last year.
The second will arrive at the end of the year, when not only will it be necessary to redo the calculations with the new municipal rates, but also to pay the balance on the first installment, i.e. the difference between what we will have already paid and what we would have had to pay if the Municipalities had in time.
